Week 1

This will be my 4th time to Hong Kong and my husband's first.

My biggest fear is Hong Kong's weather. Whilst I have experienced both cold and warm weather, I dread Hong Kong's summer.

More importantly, my fear of sweaty armpits, wet bum marks on seats, and becoming 'Ms Irritable' in the hot & humid weather was upon me. Using fanning device made from property brochures kept me cool in the first week. Phew. I am happy to say there were no 'casualties' as hubs knew exactly what to do when he sense the 'irritable' levels rising, which was highly influenced by the heat of the day.

However, note that Summer is a month away and the heat wave is yet to come. Humidity in Hong Kong can reach 100% RH levels in Summer. Clothes wont dry and mold is king. A friend mentioned that high humidity levels can make one feel very tired and it is important that I drink some traditional Chinese soup to help me cope with the weather. I need to find out more when I see you next, Wendy.

Did I mention Typhoon? What about Black Rainstorms? I don't know much about these weather conditions but from what I read and heard, there are 3 warning levels - Amber, Red and Black. No one goes to work/school/outdoors when the Black level warning is issued. That's kinda scary...shivers...not sure what to expect but I am pretty sure I will find out living in Hong Kong.

Apart from my fear of the heat, week 1 was quite full on. Here's a summary of what we did:
1. Signed up for a local mobile plan (too hard not to have internet on the go!)
2. Got ourselves the Octopus card so we could travel around easily
3. Engaged a real estate agent so we can get to know the options better (we probably viewed 20+ units!)
4. Met up with some old and new friends
5. Ate mostly at local eateries around the Tsim Sha Tsui area (this is where we live for now)
7. Met job recruiters for initial meet & greet (Yes, I am looking for a job)
....And many more.

I am now into the 2nd week here in Hong Kong and hubs has started work this Monday, May 5th 2014.

I will keep this first post short and sweet. More details on the activities listed above coming up soon.

Meanwhile, eat well and be happy.

Cheers,
The Hungry Monkee.
